Creativity

The creative adult is the child who survived.

The creative adult is the child who survived after the world tried killing them, making them “grown up”.

The creative adult is the child who survived the blandness of schooling, the unhelpful words of bad teachers, and the nay-saying ways of the world.

The creative adult is in essence simply that, a child.” Ursula LeGuin

Clarification --drawing

I know that seeing a finished piece of art for most people is enough. As a creator of work I am also very interested in the creative process, mine and other peoples. I always have worked closely with a sketchbook; sometimes I draw drawings I am already working on. Here is a drawing from my sketchbook and a piece I wrote.

“ Clarification that happens in a drawing.
A reason for a drawings existence will reveal itself
e.g. the two Meditation diptychs.
The eyeball looking out on a watery world.
The inner turmoil of the seed, the seedling, the fetus.
Red within, blue without, WHY?
Now I have to make sense of what has been revealed,
to clarify, when I don’t really understand myself. It’s like being blind”
